PROUD POCAHONTAS PARENTS

SF and I were both able to attend MR's LIVING MUSEUM Day at school yesterday. MR had worked hard on a report of Pocahontas. Each student did a short presentation of their project. We were very proud of the work MR had done.

 

It was interesting to watch her put the report together and study this time of history. My parents were able to bring the stones that she used in the presentation. The stones were used to grind grain and as tools and probably a hatchet. They had been found in the fields that my family lived on in Ohio. It was settled by my dad's family in 1832. Indians lived in the area and my dad's family found the "stones" when they were working the ground. I don't really think I thought that much about the fact that our land was settled on a "land grant". When MR was studying about the "northwest territories" that was the land that my dad's family got.

 

MR really got into learning about the people of that time and really did a good job. She is growing up so quickly.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY

I should just quit trying to get all 4 of them to smile at the same time! We just got home from the Memorial Day service at the local cemetary. It was well attended and well done.

SF got us there a bit early...but better that than late.

DRESS REHERSAL

The girls had practice for their dance recital this weekend last night. It went well. Too long...but that is how it goes. They have shows three different times. A long weekend!

 

The studio that they go to has been around forever. This year is the directors 60th year of teaching dance!

~Three goofs on a glider~

I decided to bite the bullet and get new cushions for our glider on the porch this year. MR informed me that I just got "new" cushions last year. Well the truth is the glider was my grandparents (so it must be 70+ years old). And I got it over 20 years ago. I bought and covered cushions for it and then last year made a new cover. It never really worked out right. So I found these "Chair" cushions at K-Mart of all places and three of them fit it perfectly. I had to take off and reattach the straps, but a few stitches later it is done and I love it!

 

Here are EM, SJ and MR trying it out before church this morning! I think we will be out on the porch more this year as it is really more comfortable. Now I just need to get busy and get the rest of the porch in shape!

SJ's Sunday school teacher gave them bulbs to plant last fall. SJ has been watching each day to see it come and and finally bloom. Well here it is! She was really excited to see the color. She didn't know what it would look like but she really likes it!!
